If you are going to take up candle making you will need to know about the different kinds of candle making wax. There are important differences between the waxes that will produce different qualities in the candle.
Now that you have explored wax choices, let’s talk wicks. If your candle had no wick, it wouldn’t burn at all! The wick runs from the top to the bottom of the candle so a flame can burn until all the candle’s wax has melted.
A double boiler is the safest and most efficient way for you to melt your wax. You can either purchase a double boiler or you can use a pitcher with a lip for pouring and a large pot for boiling water. You absolute need to have a good thermometer. The temperature of the wax is the only way you will know when it is the right time to put in additives, fragrance and dyes and exactly when the wax should be removed from the heat source. A candy thermometer will also work just as well for this process.
Step # 6. When the wax is all melted here comes the hard part. Pour the gel wax in to the candle mold. Make sure that you take your time and that you do not burn yourself as the wax is very hot. When this is done then simply put the mold to the side in order to let it sit and cool off. Leave it alone and in a place where it will not be disturbed for about 24 hours. When the 24 hours have passed then take the mold and and trim the wick to about a quarter of an inch. You are done!
Here is what you are going to do if you want to make Epic Workshops scents at home. Start off by taking the flowers and the herbs that you want to use and grinding them with the mortar and the pestle. You want them to be of a medium grained consistency. The next thing that you are going to do is to place the ground up flowers and herbs in to the glass jar and add three cups of olive oil. Place the lid on tightly and shake the jar.
Like any form of creation, candle making leaves the creator with a sense of pride and self-satisfaction which comes with a job well done. It involves making or creating the object from scratch, with your own hands, putting into it your creative ideas or thoughts and also your feelings. This form of creating something with your own hands leaves you a better person. Also, this art form can serve as an outlet for ideas and emotions. The candle maker often puts his inner most thoughts and ideas into making the candle. The more creative the candle maker, the more unique the final product will be.
For example, let’s say you would like to make an apple candle in September for the fall season. You could search and find apple molds and buy them, or, why not make candle making molds from a real apple?
The last of the candle molds I want to introduce you to are those made of plastic. The plastic molds are most cost-effective. As such, they are a cheap way for you to introduce yourself to the hobby. Keep in mind, however, that they will not last as long. They are the most fragile, and can break if handled roughly or simply due to age and fatigue. They do clean up nicely though, with warm soapy water. Just be sure the mold is 100% dry before you use it again.
