One year ago, my father asked me, the young internet entrepreneur, “What’s a blog?” I paused for minute. I had heard the term before … but I couldn’t answer him. I honestly didn’t know. Little did I know that so many people would soon tap into a new type of gold mine and make money with blogs.

On the other hand, I say this with a sheepish smile, since Blogs are free, I set up another blog in Google for my family and friends where I simply post pictures of the family and news about them. This I have no need to be picked up by web search engines, and just pass out the URL to my kids and close friends. Which is another way to use blogs.

The first important thing you should do is to select your niche. After selection of your niche, you should make a list of your favorites. If you do not have an existing blog, you need to register online. There are free blogs that you can register with. When you are through with the registration, you should select the feel and look. So I remain with my hand raised on “hating blogs”. And I fully admit I continue to blog. The lesson that I have learned is that no web technology should be ignored when it becomes mainstay. If you are serious about adding credibility to your business then setting up a blog should also be part of the plan.

It is a fact that online blogs are powerful tool to increase your list. Yet, even if we know how to do it we can never assume that it can attract the attention of many readers. Things will just be the same in this case. But the question is how?

The key to creating a successful blog is to create content that people are interested in. You can accomplish that by acting as a medium for people to voice their opinions & share information, or you could post your own information. Frequent updates, valuable content, timeless content, and helpful content will all siphon new visitors and retain recurrent visitors. Blog popularity usually erupts through word-of-mouth, so bear that in mind. When people are talking about it, people always want to see what all the commotion is about. After thinking about your human visitors, though, think about the robotic ones. Be sure to stay on topic and have keyword rich entries if you want search engine spiders to visit often.

You must be consistent! A blog that makes money isn’t something that you can just throw up and then ignore for a week or a month. You must be consistent and update a lot so that people keep coming back and your traffic stays where it needs to be.
