Ask a lot of people what kind of things they find stressful and high on the list in many cases will be buying a car. More particularly buying a used car. Few people have a lot of mechanical expertise so they largely depend on a test drive and a peek under the hood. They don’t know what they are looking for under the hood but it seems like the thing to do.
6) Turbochargers. If you have lots of money and are serious about upgrading your car a turbo kit might be what you need. Turbos use the exhaust from your engine to spin a turbine, which forces air into your engine. This pressurizes the air and improves horsepower dramatically. These are not very likely to be something you would install yourself. They also may require other modifications to your car, so the cost is out of reach for most people.
From the catalytic converter recyclers, the exhaust gasses go through a bit more pipe and then into a muffler, or system consisting of several mufflers and/or resonators.
Ask around; see if any friends or colleagues can recommend anywhere. Reputation is critical in this industry, it will take a few seconds to run the dealerships name through an Internet search engine and you never know, you might find a posting on a forum or a review in a local publication.
My current car has a rattle on the catalytic converter. When I drive or rev my engine, you can hear a tinny clicking sound. This sounds terrible, and people probably think that my car is falling apart (I’m not saying it isn’t) but the rattling sound is only the “Cover” of the cat\. For the longest time I consulted with my uncles who are both mechanics and asked them if I was in need of a new catalytic converter recycling converter. Luckily they both assured me that the cover was causing the sound and can be replaced of fixed just by tightening. So as a wise piece of advice, if you hear a rattling, and it sounds like your cat\r, 99% of the time it is just the cover and you can get that easily fixed or replaced very cheaply.
Many folks, these days, however, do enjoy the option of being able to heat with wood. Putting in a new wood stove does not have to be an all consuming job. And in fact, the small amount of time you spend in planning and carrying out the installation is minimal compared to the hours of virtually free heat you will be enjoying in your home.
Here’s the takeaway: if you intend to continue having mechanics perform all of the maintenance and repair work on your vehicle, find someone you can trust. In the meantime, consider buying your auto parts online and learning how to install them on your own.
